Hyperliquid Expands HLP Beyond Market Making
CW 33 Hyperliquid is expanding trader infrastructure and plans to add lending to HLP. Avenir Group incubated UMX, combining crypto with traditional securities. Meanwhile, Lombard is shifting LBTC yield from Bitcoin staking to a Bitwise-managed covered-call strategy.
Hyperliquid optimizes offering for traders
Hyperliquid announced two ecosystem upgrades this week. The Hyperliquid Foundation now lets qualified infrastructure providers access its low-latency on-chain data nodes at a standardized price below $1,000 per month, removing the previous requirements of staking 10,000 HYPE and reaching Tier 1 market-maker volume. Providers must show at least one year of operating experience, serve over 100 clients, and cover five networks — and are barred from offering faster dedicated feeds to selected market makers. The change took effect on August 12.
Separately, Hyperliquid is preparing to add a lending component to HLP, its flagship market-making vault. With order book liquidity now mature, HLP yields have fallen to near zero; the next upgrade is expected to route idle USDC into a lending sub-strategy, primarily supplying Portfolio Margin traders, who can already post HYPE and BTC as collateral. While HLP's role in market making has shrunk, it remains a key liquidity buffer in Hyperliquid's liquidation engine.
Avenir Group incubates UMX, crypto+RWA platform
Avenir Group, Asia's largest institutional Bitcoin ETF holder, has announced the incubation of UMX, a crypto-friendly securities platform built for professional-grade investors worldwide. UMX bridges digital assets and traditional finance in a single cross-market experience, offering real US stocks, ETFs and options — not tokenized stocks or CFDs — alongside crypto trading with unified account structure, cross-asset margining and institutional-grade risk controls.
The platform consolidates digital assets, US equities, yield-generating assets and margin capabilities into one asset view, letting investors deploy capital more flexibly across trading, financing and yield generation. UMX is now available in public beta by invitation, with registration at www.umx.com. Avenir Group said it will continue collaborating with financial institutions and technology partners to advance infrastructure at the intersection of traditional finance and digital assets.

Lombard shifts LBTC yield strategy to Bitwise-managed covered call options
Lombard has announced that LBTC's yield source will move away from Babylon Bitcoin staking to a covered call options strategy managed by Bitwise, a leading crypto asset manager, targeting a net annualized yield of 2.5% denominated in Bitcoin. The strategy will use up to 60% of LBTC's reserve assets, with the underlying Bitcoin held in custody by Anchorage Digital Bank and Kraken Institutional.Deployment begins with a $10 million pilot in the week of August 17, and full allocation is expected to be completed by September. The shift marks a notable diversification for Lombard, one of the largest Bitcoin liquid staking protocols, as it adds options-based yield generation on top of its staking business. Existing LBTC holders need to take no action.
